About TwinCitiesRailfan.com
Launched in 2004, TwinCitiesRailfan was originally a personal site to provide Aaron an outlet to show rejected photos from the most popular rail pictures site on the 'Net! The name TwinCitiesRailfan was chosen to label myself. But that was not good enough! Focus of the site expanded. The name is so universal, it easily beckons residents of the metro and visitors alike.
My blog was added, and shortly thereafter, other railfans were invited. To this date, a humble collection of Bloggers populate TwinCitiesRailfan. TwinCitiesRailfan's goal constantly evolves and continues to strive to be one of the best resource for railfan-related information specifically directed to the Twin Cities metro. A TwinCitiesRailfan offering has patiently awaited its first submission: the railfan Article section. Be it historical, informative, humorous, or instructional, we hope to provide pieces on anything relating to real trains or those which fit in basements.
After a TRAINS magazine write-up of ATCS monitoring, a couple of instrumental railfans were known to live in the Metro. They were invited and began to submit articles touting the benefits of the real-time tracking of trains in the area. Countless railfans signed up and now follow rail activity via the computer - enhancing their railfan results!
As this site attracted more members to the forums two questions were regularly asked: where are the best spots; and when do the trains run? The former is easier to answer than the latter. From this came the genesis for the TwinCitiesRailfan Railfan Guides. A growing database of metro-based places to watch trains. Next, with the expertise of MilwaukeeRoadMatt, local train jobs were listed in a database to assist railfans on where they might catch some of their favorite motive power. Add to this railfan links on the Internet, tips and links for safer railfanning, and the forums. TwinCitiesRailfan has sprouted from a humble piece of virtual real estate into a the foundation for a true clearing house of information.
Please, join the forums. Submit railfan guides, articles or request to become a blogger. The more contributors, the better a resource we have.
