Quoted from BNSF's "Northtown Diesel Shop" Newsletter: "With the retirement of the 40-2 fleet, Northtown will see new tooling, training and the assigning of the 44-9 fleet, along with projects like Hot Start." This was in a letter from Doug Wagner, Northtown Shop Superintendent. No date or anything was given. |

A few of the SD40-2's that are staying on with the BNSF are starting to get renumbered. Spotted at NTW in the past few weeks is the BNSF 1946 former BNSF 7148 and the BNSF 1784 former BNSF 7039. I would suspect the remaining RCL units at NTW will soon get a new number but what and when is anyones guess. |

Just when you thought the 8029 was definately done for, I saw it sitting outside of the shops this morning with a new battery box and completely redone front end of the walkway. Its a little strange looking, no cab number on the side yet and the green they used is quite contrasting to the faded (but still nice) green on the rest of the unit. What would you expect though? http://wctransfer.rrpicturearchives.net ... id=1535340 Alec |

The 8029 is probably owned so it would be dumb not to fix a minor cosmetic problem on a good order unit. Funny to see the 6821 there, it's been in SD for a while. |

I see you said that the 8029 was swiped at Pig's Eye. What exactly happened to that unit? |

Well, from what I heard the BNSF was only keeping their owned units, and those were the 63,67,68, and 69 series. I believe BN leased most of their later SD40-2's, which is why the newest ones are the ones that they rid themselves of (The FURX's and the HLCX's). Just my guess, but I dont think they own the 8000's. And when they plan to be pretty much done with SD40-2's anyway, why would they fix one instead of pulling one out of a storage line? Thats why I think that they are only fixing it so it will be approved when they go back to the lesser. The 8029 was on the BN-CP transfer a few weeks back and supposedly it was hanging over on another track, and when a CP switch job came by it side swiped it pretty good from what I heard. The BN was blamed for the incident. Alec |

I think the BNSF owns more than that. According to UMLER the BNSF owns the 7812. |
