For those of you that dont normaly read the Locophoto forums, like me, its never. so when i came across this I figured I would put it here. Copied from there forum. BNSF is trying to organize all its locomotives in numerical order by make and model So it has a spot for the New GEVOs and Gensets. The next big renumbering is for the following units and will begin soon to make room for more Genset Switchers. BNSF 960-1059 will now become BNSF 4200-4299 BNSF 1060-1123 will now become 5530-5593 BNSF 5841-5843 will become BNSF 5594-5596 and the oddball one i dont get is the BNSF 599 (Ex BNSF 666) will now become BNSF 5599. The New Gensets will get the numbers BNSF 1000-1199 and 1300-1499 A series Of these will have Dynamic breaks according to my road foreman for Locals and Roadswitcher jobs. Most all GP and SD38 and 40 model Locos will no longer be with BNSF After 2011 Due to Stricter Air laws and maintenence costs. 5841-5843 are Dash9's that have already been renumbered to 5530-5532. I think he ment to say 5838-5840 I find it odd they are splitting up the H1's lets hope and pray they dont get repainted too |

...and then it was followed by this: I was able to communicate directly to the person in Ft. Worth who is in charge of the renumbering of the fleet (among other things) and he told me the C44-9 plan Jose posted is totally false. There is no plan to do any of the renumbering listed above. There still is the old plan to pull the 5841-5843 out of the AC road numbers, but its still targeted to go to the 5530-5532 series as before. He said there isn't much urgency to do this, but its still going to happen someday. I also asked him about the diversity units and he said he's never heard of such a plan to repaint any units. Jose, I think your co-workers are feeding you misleading info for some reason. Chris Guss I like what Chris said so I'm going to believe that one. |

I was hoping to see some H1 Renumbers ohh well. I do beleive that alot of the older power will be gone by 2011 because of the new Air Laws though. |

I understand you're point, but to me a renumbered engine is the same engine but with just an ugly patch on it. Plus, a renumbered locomotive is no longer original and to see the only BNSF GEs I like with an ugly number patch would piss me off. |

Why does a railroad re-number anyway? I get the idea of trying to number units by model and what not is that very cost effective? Benefits out weight the costs? Seems like they would have so many other things they could put resources to? |

its prolly pretty cheap it is only a decal and some labor. from an executive stand point it prolly makes sense but we all know executive decision isnt always the best...... |
