Hanging around railroad tracks you tend to learn a thing or two. I ran into a BNSF track inspecter that needed to vent about some things, I will spare you the details but pass on a few things I learned today. The spray paint that we see on the rails mark a defect in the rail, switch, roadbed or tie. Each defect that is marked should warrant a slow order however it is almost impossible to do so. The spray paint is designed to fade in two weeks. Kinda cool info I thought I would pass it on. |

It is that or it might be surveyor crews at work - we sometimes have to tag rail when surveying. Once in a while it is impossible to put down stakes or nails so we just use the rail to hold our place till we figure out what to do. And our paint wears off pretty fast as well, though sometimes we've been amazed to see it last in places it shouldn't have... |
