Lately my cousin and I have noticed unit coal trains to Becker with brand new cars from CP. Anyone else seen this? This seems strange to me up here in BN country.

On recent trip up the Staples Sub we also noticed the new CP cars going into the the plant.

I think CP had a slow down in coal traffic on their line, so they leased them out to the BNSF.

Not very good planning to buy brand new cars and then not have a use for them. I wonder if something happend rather sudden to their coal business.
Just as a side note............I was reading this morning that the bulk of the coal that CP hauls ends up in Japan.

Yeah, I think it was something that came up not long after they bought them. I want to say it had something to do with a major mine they served in Western Canada, if I recall correctly, but I can't say for sure.
