I know that some of you guys aren't fans of the UP but a good spot to watch trains is along Stillwater Rd. in Lake Elmo. Most trains except for coal are powered by 5-7 SD40-2s working hard to pull the load up into the Twin Cities. For people who don't know where Stillwater Rd. is here are directions-take 94 East to 694. Head North on 694 and take exit 55 onto HW 5, take a right and follow 5 untill the railroad line comes into view to the right and park along the road. NOTE HW 5 becomes Stillwater Rd. If you hit downtown(and I'm using that word losely) Lake Elmo you've gone too far. Also does anybody know when MNNR uses that line to get to bayport and what power does it use? Heres a map- |
