Anything to show for it? No.
We came up Little Bowstring Lake (10 min north of Deer River). Since we were there only for 2 days I had no railfan stuff planned. Well on 7/4 I got a shot of station signs Deer River and East Deer River.
On the way home, just west of Cohasset, I saw BN/BNSF coal cars moving slowly behind the trees. We were caravanning with the in-laws behind us. I pulled over with a crabby daughter and grandparents wondering what was going on (but with some idea it might be train related). I waited for about 5 minutes to see the SD70MAC Pumpkin, ACe and 70MAC Possum, that had apparently stopped well behind where we stopped. Soon the headlight crept slowly towards us going behind a line of trees. Thinking the train would soon pass the yellow signal, we were all befuddled to notice the headlights were now completely gone. A minute later I realized this loaded coal train was entering the power plant.
Getting burned once and having a crying daughter in the back, I passed up the opportunity to snap a photo of EMDX 762 in Grand Rapids.
Had I had more time, I would have given you warning Chris and tried to meet up with you. What is it, 40 miles to Cass Lake?
