Well, some sad news to report from the DM&IR side of the CN. CN is sending 21 IC SD40-2s up to the DM&IR to replace ALL of the SD38s, SD38-2s, SDMs, and any SD40-3 numbered above 409. The only DM&IR engines staying will be 400-409, and of those only 403 is in maroon. If you want to see the DM&IR power, I suggest getting up these soon! |

My response to the list... #1) No reason to dislike the DMIR. If you don't want to be like everyone shoot the TCW. #2) Opinion. (as is mine) The Maroon and Gold is awesome contrasted with the pine trees, and depending on the time of year the leaf color. #3) With the point of this thread... let me see a three pack of DMIR units in two years. When all-rails move through (winter/late winter) you'll see a HUGE variety of motor power. #4) Somtimes the predictability is whats attractive. T-birds normally take one day off a week, the MRF only works twice a week, the Keenan Switch as needed, the Transfer nearly daily, the PRS nearly daily with a variety of trains. #5) Non-taconite trains include the MRF, PRS, KS, Transfer, T-bird (crude ore), limestone trains, coal trains. #6) Its been nearly two years since I've been to the Iron Range... I know for a 100% fact it has changed quite a bit. I used to watch the DMIR in the early 2000's on a nearly monthly basis. My oh my how much it has changed. What I would do to have it back the way it was. Long live the DMIR, and hopefully I can make it back before all the "ugly" units are gone. I've NEVER been flipped off or looked upon negatively by any crew on the DMIR... before and after CN. |
