Post subject: | Interesting Grain Train |
On Saturday (the 26th), I caught a Duluth bound CP grain train at University Ave that was made up entirely of ADM Milling grain cars. Power was a CP SD40-2, a CSX GE, and a HLCX lease unit. I had caught a train just like this, if not the same one, in May (I think) at University Ave with a CSX and Conrail GE. Does anyone have any idea where this train comes from? I'm guessing it comes of the CSX, but I have know idea Thanks for any help |

I saw a similar train about one year ago. On my way home, travelling down Hiawatha, I see plenty of ADM cars at the elevator on the corner of 35th and Hiawatha. I wonder if they are collected in Pig's Eye or if they come from further east. By the way MN Railroader, is your name Ralph Wiggum? Love the quote. |

Next time some one should let me know, I love to fallow the CP's north. Look to see if they are loaded or empty. you can tell by looking at the springs on the trucks. a time or two they send grain trains north just to be blocked out, or sorted so that cars can be dropped off at different places as the train heads west. |

The ADM mills on Hiwatha Ave in south Minneapolis are flour mills the majority of cars that I have seen at the mills are airslide cars. There are still three operating grain mills along this fromer MILW line however the majority of the cars are BNSF and UP. This line is now served by the MNNR. |

[quote="MN Railroader how often does CP send grain trains up to the Twin Ports? I can't imagine it's alot. BTW, does UP ever send grain trains up to the Twin Ports?[/quote] There is one CP train a day heading north, and also one coming south, so... two a day. Like I said earlier, they send alot up there just to get switched out and brought back down in a differnt order. the UP is prolly a lil less, one north and then back south the next. I also have could some UP manifests. the CP train ususaly leaves the cities or superior around 6 PM the UP is totaly unpredictable. I've caught them all hours. |
