diesels produce very little exhaust heat unless you are working them hard. they way those units switch all day with very little "hard" road work its surprising that they haven't had more fires. This is also why some locos spew white smoke after idle for extended times, burning off the oil and carbon that has collected in the exhaust system.

well that everyones lesson for today enjoy your recess.....

When I was in Long Beach last spring I managed to see one of the PHL SW's from across the yard, it looked to be operable and in need of paint, http://milwaukeeroadmatt.rrpicturearchi ... id=1067898 I staked out the yard for two days and never saw the former TCW unit but non the less it would be nice to see new power up there some time soon.

For anybody interested, rock season has started. Since March 30th, five unit ballast trains have been loaded at the quarry in Waite Park.

I assume the only one that loads there is BNSF? has the power been any good?

One of our "new" locomotives arrived today.

Also, the whale car has been on the RIP track the past couple days. Not sure if it's still there though...

What's the other 'new' locomotive(s)? I really like GP10s and if there is a pair of them with well done patches like this one I'll have to make a small trip up there.

Its nice to see that the 1411 has got a new home. I remember seeing that unit stored at Northtown last year.

The whale car was still on the RIP track this evening thought I don't know if the loco in close proximity was a sign of anything to come

The "new" loco looks good too. Be interested to see what else turns up by May 1st

For anybody who might be in town for the Granite City Train Show, there will also be two rock trains on Saturday. Northern Lines is on duty at 7am.

For anyone who misses the two RLCX units formerly leased by Northern Lines I have bad news. The 1703 is being cut up for scrap and the 1704 has been put out to pasture, likely to never be run again. Also, our other new locomotive is apparently sitting at Northtown with coupler issues.
