Gopher Rail 2009 is coming in a few weeks! This year it will take place on Saturday, January 31, 2009 in our club building at 1701 University Avenue from 9am-8pm. Admission, same as last year, will be $7 for non-students, free for students. Please keep in mind that this is the railroad club's only fund-raising event.
Some attractions this year include: Minnesota Free-Mo with their hundreds of feet of HO and N Scale train layouts, amazing videos of railroading in the Twin Cities from the 80's, 90's and today, and a variety of professional speakers, including John Diers, author of "Twin Cities by Trolley" and Rob Mangels, president of Transportation Innovation Specialists and a respected railroad restoration and new-construction figure (he has restored multiple passenger cars and has been a restoration worker and locomotive engineer on Steam Locomotive 261 since 1994).
Topics of these talks will include model railroad detailing and weathering, railroad photography, real-life railroad restoration and new-build passenger rail cars, history of streetcars in the Twin Cities and on campus, and other rail-related topics.Of course, tours of the club's HO-scale layout and clubroom will take place throughout the day.
