We spent a little time along the BNSF St. Croix Sub last weekend, sure were a LOT of trains. Its a great line to fan the BNSF just because of the pure number of trains. I estimated 80 trains between Friday afternoon and Sunday when we left. Our campsite was only about 200 feet from the tracks in Maiden Rock Wisconsin. Friday night I got very little sleep as they come rolling through here at 50 blowing their horns all night long. There are lots of scenic locations to shoot between Prescott and Alama as well as points south, the main issue I had was sunlight. There was plenty of it but because the tracks curve so much following the river and the tree lined RoW's its difficult to get the sun in your favour. Pre scouting a location and knowing when the sun will be correct is key to getting correct light along this line. I had more poor photo's then good ones I'm sad to say but I learned a lot and intend to try this area again soon. Can any one else relate to shooting whatever might be in view while waiting for that train to come by? There are trains photo's in this album just so you know X |
