Post subject: | New Home - Elk River |
Morning all, Well, I've made the move back to the big city (almost) from Morris and now live just a block north of the Staples Sub in Elk River. I still work for the U of M in Morris as an Admissions Counselor, but now just in the twin cities high schools. Needless to say, the train traffic has picked up just a bit from good old western Minnesota. Here's a few photos that I've taken just down the road from my apartment. http://www.morris.umn.edu/~vandenbm/ind ... ewelk.html A Z train heading through the curves downtown. http://www.morris.umn.edu/~vandenbm/ind ... sxelk.html Unit vehicle train with some CSX power. http://www.morris.umn.edu/~vandenbm/ind ... inelk.html Another Z train heading west on Wednesday. http://www.morris.umn.edu/~vandenbm/ind ... sfelk.html Manifest heading past the station sign (I know Aaron's been here before) http://www.morris.umn.edu/~vandenbm/ind ... kdusk.html One of my favorite spots just east of Big Lake. http://www.morris.umn.edu/~vandenbm/ind ... kmill.html Yet another Z train cruises through downtown this morning. Hopefully this move will finally give me a chance to meet some of you good people that take some many good photos in the area. I will miss the prairie for sure, but I think I'll learn to love the city again (I did grow up in Mound). Mike |

I love the curves in Elk River. My buddy's wife grew up there so we spend a fair amount of time there, not tracks side though Maybe Monday we'll run into ya. |

What street are you on/near when you took those great shots in Elk River? You sure did find a good spot east of Big Lake as well. |

This photo spot is Hwy 10 and Main St. in downtown Elk River. There's a sidewalk just up the hill from the legion (or VFW... I can't remember which) that works great as a photo spot. I'm hoping Amtrak will be a bit late here soon so I can grab a nice morning shot of him from there. |

The way Amtrak has been running this week you won't have to wait long for a good morning shot! I've been working on the Staples Sub on and off the last couple weeks and it seems every day I'm out there they're running late... |
