I have no idea why they have no X, but this is a railroad and there are exceptions to every rule. The Oakways have never had an X at the end of their reporting marks. When they first arrived on the BN they were being leased to Oakway and were lettered OWY, not OWYX. For some reason Oakway got out of the deal and now they are lettered EMD. People who insist that they are lettered EMDX have absolutely no proof of it and are relying on the rule that all leased equipment must end in X. These SD60s aren't the only engines to be leased and not use an X. Practically every locomotive purchased today is leased, and you don't see any CPX, BNSFX or UPX GEVOs or SD70ACe's running around. Not everyone might be familiar with it, but Conrail began leasing a fleet of 60 C40-8W's from GE in 1994. Forty of the 60 were lettered LMS while the remaining 20 were lettered and painted for Conrail. The LMS units never had an X applied to the reporting marks. I think they are all now apart of CSX. |

I see why Mike is upset. Ive been trying to tell the ignorant for an eternity that the grey WC SD40-3s are NOT CN! People always say "CN 6941" when it is WC, or they call a CN painted IC locomotive a CN 6141. This just messes up a good online roster, and too many people dont change their mistakes. Alec |
