We made it back safe and sound, I dont think we kwpt track of the miles but there where alot. From Minnesota to the Quad Cities to Galesburg to Rochelle and back again. The diesel house at Galesburg makes NTW look like a used car lot. Here the rental ATCS mobile rest along with the hometown guide car at our railfan camp, ATCS mobile worked very well and proved a must need for any railfan adventure. The entrance to NRE in Silvis has some much history, I only wish we could have seen it all. The city of Cameron has both former BN and Santa Fe lines, here a coal load heads west on the ex-BN line while a BNSF Z train heads east above on the Santa Fe. Have you ever watched the webcam from Rochelle on trains.com? well here is the other end. One of the last trains of the trip turned out to be the best I had no idea they where in town. The last two CNW units pulled across the diamonds at Rochelle with a stack train out of Global 3. Our tools for the trip, laptops, radios, antennas, maps and camera. IL railfans dont use anything that fancy but they do have their own tools. Of all the places went went and the railfans we saw the ratio was 2-1 in favor of English vs America. We first meet 10 English railfans in Galesburg, oops 9 English and one Scottish, the next day in Chillicothe we meet two more English railfans at the start of their two week journey around the states. Like I said to many highlights, 450 pictures 2 and a half hours of video and many many memories. Pics in my recent folders at Webshots. My hats off and BIG thanks to Don for the planning and invite, and Steve our local guide from down south for his tour and hot spot map. |

Both the Southwest Chief and the California Zephyer pass through Galesburg, I manage to catch both during our time down there. |
