I headed down to the yard today hoping to catch a glimpse of the North Star units that were there. I was informed of them there from Chris Muller who saw them posted on an individual's Flickr page. Well turns out they either left last night or I didn't get there in time today because when I got there this afternoon they were no where to be found. Not much happening as I past through. There was some power sitting in the UP yard and a train or two departing Pig's Eye. I decided to move on.

I came back later in the evening since I had a hankering for night shots. Here are the results:

A couple geeps:

I also got to see a UP MoW rig with a switch cleaner on it in action tonight. It looked like fun making blizzard like conditions as they blew the snow away from the switch enough so that it looked like it hadn't snowed at all.

Now that Pigs Eye is closed for day time viewing. I think nite shots might be the only possibility. I have always been a fan of the nite hours there with lots of lights and lots of stopped locos close to roads, makes for great nite photograhy nice shots keep up the late nite work.

The temperature actually dropped a couple of degrees in the short time I was around there. The winds started to pick up as well and I could tell that if it got much colder I was going to start having camera problems again. There was so much lighting and the fresh snow allowed for faster shutter speed times than I was expecting.

What's this I hear about Pigs Eye closed during the day  , is it just that the area is crawling with rail cops!

Lordy guys, it's still possible to fan there... it's just a little tighter than it used to be.

Even in my smaller car, it is "uncomfortable" sitting in that minimal strip of land.

This past weekend was the first time I had been to PE in months and than it was only for a drive through and see what I could see it was bad enough sitting there in the summer with the trucks blowing dust around, now being closer to the road in the winter with those trucks flying past on ice and snow no thank you I like my car and my life even better I hate to say it but for safety I would be in favor of the barriers being moved even closer to the road. O by the way great shots there John!
