While sitting trackside waiting for a meet with a fellow TCR member I noticed smoke rising above the tracks at University. Not seeing any flames I did not feel the need to call out the fire trucks, instead I used my handy citizens for rail security card and called the number. Within mineuts the call went out over the scanner and a track inspector showed up. He doused the smoldering tie with several bottles of water and left. About ten mineuts passed and Brahamfiremen arrived at Uni with a Mpls fire rig right behind him. Looks as if another railfan parked along the tracks called them in, with no flames they drove around and droped one firefighter off, he dodged the Grove job and a X train to check the tracks while his buddies in the truck took off to hide. It sure made for a interesting evening.

That's pretty cool. Did they say anything on the scanner about a "railfan reporting it", or was it just "reported"?
