Having not been trackside in well over a month do to a lot of circumstances, when a scheduled meeting over the lunch hour was cancelled I decided a half an hour was better then nothing. I ran through the Kentucky Fried on Univeristy and Lexington and then on to Como Ave. I caught two trains in my 30 minutes and also a question. First through was what I think was the EB Alma coal train (No scanner or camera) ES44AC 6013 was leading with another ES44AC 5943 in second. Both in Swoosh. Third in line was 8237, Warbonnett SD75M. That no sooner cleared then a WB Stack train came through (No idea on this one) GP60M 147 Warbonnett was leading with two green SD40-2's in tow. Double stacked all the way with mostly COSCO and TEX containers. Here's the question. Both of these trains came through at what could easily be described as "walking" speed. Had I ever wanted to jump a moving train, this would have been the golden oppurtunity. Posted speed through here is 40 MPH, the last few months have seen a slow down, but not this slow. Does any one know why there going that slow both directions on the St. Paul Sub? Also wondering if the Grey Honda Accord parked in the lot down from me was a railfan from here?? |

Going east a lot of the time trains get held up and Miss. St. and often the train second out will stop at the top of the hill until the first train moves. Going west things easily get slowed down if there is a train waiting to get into Shoreham or Northtown. Trains often sit at Park Jct. and they have to crawl up to the signal because it's around a corner so it's easy to run through it. |
