Due to the economics of air transportation (OKC-MSP is $620, DWF-MSP is $180), I had to drop my wife off at the DFW airport yesterday. Having heard good things about Saginaw, TX (10-20 miles north of downtown Ft. Worth), I decided to head over and see what was happening. Holy smokes, is that a nice place to watch trains. Their chamber of commerce owns the old depot, which is at the intersection of a UP and two BNSF lines, and has a large parking lot which is a popular spot for area railfans (there were about half a dozen people there watching trains all afternoon). The light in the later part of the day is spectacular, and there were probably 2-3 trains / hour. I saw headend power from the majority of North American class I's (UP, BNSF, TFM, CSX, NS, CN, SP, BN), as well as a nice variety of rolling stock. There are 3 or 4 massive grain elevators in town as well as a Trinity tank car plant. NS's RoadRailer facility is in Saginaw too. One shot was worthy of , the others are on . If any of you ever find yourselves in the DFW area, Saginaw is definitely worth a visit. |
