http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezKlRxs_ff8 I uploaded this video, it is recorded from an old TV show. I'm not sure if it will get disabled for copyright or not, but wanted to share. |

"...what could cause such a disaster? was it sabotage a bomb no in fact there was a kink in the air hose that runs to the train's breaks..." Yeah, and this particular incident led to emergency breaks on trains! LOL!!! |

No fatalities noted. 11 injuries, 2 "seriously"! How did the BNSF crew survive? |

it is because of this accident that ALOT of trains that get run into CP from the west will have to stop at Mississippi or Hoffman, and the DS won't line them in until they are between Miss and Hoffman. The story I was told when I was at Pigs Eye was that the DS already had this train lined into Pigs Eye, as it was the now a days BN-CP. when the call came in that they were a "runaway" it was to late, even if the DS had run the timers on the switches at Hoffman and tried to send em down the main towards Oakland the timers wouldn't have ran out before they came screaming down the hill, most timers are 5 minutes. |

I know this post is very late but I was on duty in Radiology when this accident occurred and took many xrays of several people they brought in. There were some true heroes that night as the one story that sticks with me was the St. Paul fireman that crawled under a soy bean car and kept the spilling beans away from the trapped man while digging dirt out from under the guy to get him pulled out. |
