So, I was watching "Public Enemies", with johnny depp, the other night.. and who should make an appearance?? There's a depot scene, and there's the 261 up close and personal

Must have been from a year or two ago.. but I never heard a peep about the 261 being in a movie.

I just watched that movie today. As nice as it was to see 261 in a major movie, it was unfortunately one of the many screw ups in the movie. I understand it's hard to find a steam locomotive of the correct period, but the 261 came 10 years after Dillinger died.

There was a second steam locomotive in the background towards the end of the movie. I'm assuming it was the 261 again...but I couldn't tell for sure. Did you happen to catch it?

The picture appears to show UP 844, an FEF3-class 4-8-4 also operational in modern times. The smoke deflecters are nicknamed "Elephant Ears".
