This summer the "Friends of the 261" in cooperation with the Twin Cities & Western Railroad will operate steam excursion trains to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the City of Cologne and TC&W's 15th Anniversary. All trips will feature Milwaukee Road steam locomotive 261. The trips will originate out of St. Louis Park, Minnesota on former Milwaukee Road main line trackage now operated by the TC&W. These will be the first 261 excursions to operate on the Twin Cities & Western since 2001.
On Saturday, July 29 and Sunday, July 30, 261 will pull excursion trains from St. Louis Park to Cologne and from Cologne to Glencoe. This route was once used by the Milwaukee Road's famed "Olympian Hiawatha" and has not seen regularly scheduled passenger train service since 1969.
The train will include four former Milwaukee Road passenger cars including two cars to be used in Premium Class: Skytop Lounge Observation "Cedar Rapids" and Super Dome #53. Premium class includes complimentary hors d'oevrees, beverages and deluxe reserved seating. First class and coach seating is also available. First class includes complimentary snacks and beverages. Schedule
The Cologne 125th Anniversary trips will depart from St. Louis Park at old Bass Lake Railroad Yard at Belt Line Blvd and Highway 7 just behind Nordic Ware (a map will be included with the tickets). Departure from St. Louis Park on Saturday and Sunday, July 29-30, will be at 9 a.m. with arrival in Cologne at 10 a.m. Departure from Cologne for Glencoe will be at 10:30 a.m. with arrival back at Cologne at 12:30 p.m. Departure from Cologne will be at 2:15 p.m. with arrival at St. Louis Park at 3:30 p.m.
