Just a friendly PSA - Leaf season is fast approaching and we'll be running extra trains in Oct. for leaf viewing and also a couple days of pumpkin trains [bring the kids and go pick one out for your own and bring it home with you!]. Not sure what the power assignments will be but needless to say we'll have both units and a lot of cars in service in October. Check out our website for more info - http://www.mtmuseum.org |

Leaf extras are running Oct 7-8, 14-15 in addition to our regular service. Peak color is supposed to be in the next two weeks - I can report back on how it looks this weekend if folks like. Not sure what the power break up will be, BN 6234 has been the main power recently with Soo 559 running the extras. |

Just an update - we're running 9 car trains at Osceola now, trains to Marine only leaving at 11, 12:45, 2:30, and 4:15 for 1.5 hour rides thru the state park... We're running with 559 on the north end, 6234 on the south end of the train. There were at least a couple railfans trackside last weekend when I was on the crew, leaf color should be at peak this weekend out there - perfect timing for the Day In North America contest for those of you heading trackside for that. |

So how was it? The crowds were bound to be crazy... The colors were great this weekend. I worked on the switch crew at Jackson Street [great weather for working in the yard] and then caught the 4:15 train on Osceola with the rest of the family. |

Yeah, colors don't stand out quite as well in the cloudy weather. But with only running one unit that platform on A11 must have been slick. Last week you got to see the rear of 6234 very nicely both ways if you were in that car! Update on the trains - we have pumpkin trains running the 21st and 22nd - totally sold out but we will be running almost down to Withrow so if you are in that corner of the metro we'll be going further than the usual trips. Might offer up some railfanning not usually available. |
