I use Locotrace, http://www.drgw.net/locotrace/newtrace.php?s=smart to watch certain UP locos, it tracks the ex DRG&W units and the heritage units. other then that you pretty much have to have access to RR computers to track the stuff, there are only a few people here that do, I am not one of them so anything I say is going here or there I personally saw it. |

Pre 9-11, the UP had a website which anyone could look up a locomotive and see real-time where it was. But just like timetables, the site is gone. The problem - or limitation - of LocoTrace (built off the old site I mentioned above) is that it is only updated once a day. So changes aren't necassarily real-time. The only other way I know currently is "heads up" from other railfans. Yahoo! Groups and other bulletinboards can alert others down the line of interesting movements. I guess RailroadRadio.net works as well - live scanner feeds from various points around the country. |
