As some of you know, I'm a new member of your site, and am planning a trip to the Twin Cities and Duluth areas the first 2 weeks of July (I really appreciate everyone help on my posts!). I'm in California now, and am concerned over the weather, and it's possible effect on rail traffic. I've been watching the weather reports, etc., but am wondering if there's been any flooding or damage to the rails back there? Any drop in traffic as a result of the weather elsewhere? Thanks. |

The BN is keeping things running, but the CP is falling way behind, and will get even further. The UP is detouring some trains. |

The CP is inundated with 3 feet of water at the Reeseville Marsh outside of Milwaukee. CP can't expect to see rail there until at least next Wednesday (the 18th of June). Trees and other obstacles also fell onto the line. ATM, CP is sending a lot of midwest detours through Canada from Vancouver, Calgary, Moose Jaw, Winnipeg, etc. A BNSF bridge was ripped out by surging water on the Aurora Sub, but I don't know the status on that. Unrelated to this area, but the UP transcon (60-80 trains/day) is flooded at Cedar Rapids in Iowa. Like the BNSF, this mess will probably get taken care of a while before the CP's. Though Minnesota was relatively unaffected, this is the worst flooding the midwest has seen in 15 years. Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois and Indiana are the hardest-hit. I'll be driving to my cabin up near Detroit Lakes today, and will take note of any traffic or happenings on the CP. |
