Does anyone know the hourly operating costs for the average freight locomotive?
The corporate jet I fly burns an average of 250 gallons of Jet fuel per hour. Avg. Speed of 500mph. This along with the other operating costs put the hourly rate at around $2,000/hr.
We only have 8 passenger capacity so it isn't a cost effective way to travel.
I would guess railroads have quite an advantage over the trucking industry. Especially with fuel prices higher these days.
