Hi , i have been trying to follow this one and keep missing it. I found it at Minnesota commercial yard Sunday then i found the delivery at hiawatha Monday I talked to a few people there that seemed knowledgeable(including one metro transit member). The new units need 1000 miles on them before they can be accepted for service. This will be done at night in the airport tunnel. ????? Why i do not know. The Siemens units are much more dependable based on salt lake line and Houston line records, The Bombardier units have a very poor repair record. They are also all ready for 1/2 million mile rebuilds and some of the new units will be used for fill in wile this happens. This first car will sit here till the line closes for the night , then it'll be moved to the car barn and not uncovered till later. I am doing my best to share accurate information. and will be learning more on these in the weeks to come. Dave n. |

The Bombardier LRVs have already gone through their first overhauls -- here's a and on the subject. The project ran from September 2009 to May 2012. Since there was such a great need for the existing vehicles to stay in operation as much as possible, some Metro Transit technicians got certifications to work on some of the more proprietary pieces of the LRVs -- ordinarily, some parts would have been shipped back to Bombardier to have the company refurbish them. But certainly the new Siemens vehicles will delay the next overhaul period and give more flexibility when that happens. |
