For those of you listening to the TC Audio Feed: http://www.railroadradio.net/content/view/20/146/

The host has recently switched to a better gain antenna which has increased the coverage, especially to the south. Currently the scanner is set to receive at least 21 channels. With so many channels it’s often that part of a conversation is missed due to the scanner moving channel and another frequency is now active.

Also, this summer the “plan” is to move the antenna from 22’ high to 60’ high. That should again increase the amount of coverage, only causing more chances of missed conversations.

As a possible “fix” for this; the host is considering dividing the feed between his location in Rosemount and a more north eastern location. The 2nd location is a good site, it’s ready to go on the air (it’s currently the main TC ATCS server site).

For a possible division of frequencies: The northern receiver might be set to scan:
1) BNSF West Hump
2) BNSF Northtown Yard,
3) BNSF Staples Sub
4) BNSF Midway repeater
5) CP Paynesville Sub
6) CN Minneapolis Sub
7) UP Altoona Sub

All remaining frequencies will be on the south scanner site:

The host(s) are looking for some input from the users. Your comments are needed.

I greatly appreciate the feed... I'm interested in UP Altoona Sub specifically... that's of the most use to me out here in Hudson (to listen for warrants getting issued to eastbounds). I could care less about the rest of the frequencies.

Too bad the technology's not inexpensive enough to offer a feed for each frequency... now *that* would be useful.

Audio feed update:

Unfortunately we’ve run into a snag. It seems that Railroadradio.net is not taking on any new servers. Dan’s request was turned down for an additional port. Vancouver, BC was also turned down recently. Therefore things will remain as they are for now.

Plans were in place to add a feed from the Glenwood area this year and possibly from Superior and Willmar. These won’t happen either unless we can find an alternative hosting service. If anyone out there has any ideas, now’s the time to come forward.

I used to host the SE Minnesota Stream before I moved up here. The bandwidth used costs alot. Perhaps if some one offered a donation to RR Radio they would consider it then. A group could also set up a stream very easily if some one would fork over start up cash a server.. I think you can rent them $90 a month through serverbeach.com. Besides the monthly payments it really would not be that hard. Perhaps enough people are interested through this site someone could start it up. I have some radios that I would possibly loan out for such an experiment.

Speaking of this.. how is the site hosted? Dedicated server or through a web hosting company?

Will,

Cost here is the main issue. It would nice if we could find some way to get all the feeds in Minnesota and North Dakota on our own server. Unless someone comes forward with the funds or has access to such a server it's going to be a difficult task.

As for the Railroadradio.net; from what I can tell that operation has reached it's limits for a reason other than money. They are not charging any fees, but that also comes back to that same reason.

If your curious as what that reason is: Call me.....612-840-0996
