ALthough I'm a railfan fan of all thing TC related, I looking at gathering some equipment to make a small switching layout based on the MNNRs line up 280 to New Brighton.

Looking at photo captions on RRpicturearcives, it looks like there are two main trains that run there, 88 and the 'belt job'. And it would seem that the B23-7s are used frequently.

I know that line sees coil cars, lumber bulkheads, tank cars and I think plastics hoppers. And of course box cars.

Can anyone give me a rundown on what industries are there and the types commodities are hauled?

I would like to get a roster of 40-50 cars and hopefully an idea of 10-12 industries that could be modeled.

Thanks,

Jason Kliewer

Here is something that might help you. It has maps and information on what operations there are. It is a little old, though. (last modified in 2004)

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the links guys. Matt, where on the forum can those descriptions of jobs be found? I've been through the Board Index but haven't located them yet. How extensive are they? Are there descriptions of jobs like that for all of the Twin Cities Railroads?

Thanks

Click the "Resources" link instead of the Index

Under the list of businesses that the belt job serves is "Roland Marketing, Fridley". Does anybody know what this business is or what they do?

I am also model railroader / railfan interested in TC railroads. The question I have is does BNSF, UP, and CP run transfers to and from MNNR yard or does MNNR handle all the transfer traffic to and from MNNR and the other roads stated?

I know that MNNR runs to BNSF Northtown yard normally at night and they also run a transfer to Pig's Eye.

I'm not totally up to date on operations but I've observed UP transfers ducking in and out of Raymond Ave Yard from their adjacent East Mpls Yard. I think MNNR has run jobs to the CP at St. Paul Yard (may have been years ago). And I've seen CP run Raymond Ave Transfers from St. Paul, often with pairs of SOO SD60s. I've never seen BNSF interchange with MNNR at Raymond Ave.

The only foreign yard MNNR runs to is Northtown. All CP traffic is handled by the CP St. Paul Transfer. All UP traffic is handled by a UP job out of E. Minne. All TCWR traffic is handled by TCWR. BNSF does run a BN-UP Transfer and the last stop most days is a pickup at Midway. No setout is made by the BN-UP, all BNSF traffic to MNNR is handled by the MNNR themselves at Northtown.

Hopefully that clears it up a bit.
