I was down at Pigseye yesterday over the lunch hour and I saw what I thought was an odd occurence.
The TC&W came down their normal route with a very long train, they stopped along the bluffs and disconnected about the first third of their train. This they ran into the UP Hoffman yard and then came out light power only. They ran back out to the bluffs and picked up the remainder of the train and made their normal exchange with the CP.
Is this new, having an exchange with the UP, or have I just never seen it before?

I have never seen them in the belt yard but know they interchange with the UP over at the M&M yards.

Ok, I need a translation-where or what is the M & M yard? I don't remember any of the UP facilities called this. Is this a local term, rr slang, or am I clueless (very possible)

Inquiring minds want to know.

The M&M yard is one of the former GN yards along the Midway, it is located just east of Union Yard and can be seen from the Pierce Butler route bridge which is north of the Amtrak depot. It got it's name from the Milwaukee & Mississippi Railroad. It is also note worthy that what makes up BNSF Midway terminal are parts of the old GN Hamline Transfer yard and part of the old NP Koppers coke yard.
