360,000 estimated riders. How does this compare to the Empire Builder? |

I know this is premature to get excited about but the earlier proposed westbound departure time for the NCH compared to the current Empire Builder sounds good to me. CF |

Page 37 states that in a study done with all effected states Reps, there was an over all positive note for the NCH. this is a good thing indicating the state officials are interested. once again Money was the biggest hurdle with most states wanting federal funding for the majority of the cost. It also stated that two siding on the single track portion in MN would be connected to make a longer section of double track. I am wondering if they are talking about the old double track between Big Lake and Becker, or two sidings between Little Falls and Staples. Either way, very promising news and very exciting. |

I vote for a route on the ex-Milwaukee Road across SD and ND. That would be a ride full of scenery. I'm all for it since it would put Amtrak on the Dickinson Sub. which would be cool but would be hell for the dispatcher. Realistically, I just don't see the need to run two parallel trains through mostly sparsely populated areas... |
