Tonight I decided to head over to Newport to sit trackside in this gloomy weather (no photos or video today). On my way there I saw that there were only 30 cars sitting in the far east end of the Pig's Eye yard. I've never seen the tracks that bare over that way. I'm refering to the tracks east of the hump tower that parallel HWY 61. What's going on?

Hoping to get out tomorrow with the camera as the weather is supposed to be pretty good! Maybe I can finally try out the new lens!

normaly incoming westbounds pull in to one of the five tracks, and incoming eastbounds will have to shove in. if you notice on the east end there is a signal bridge with A,B,C,D and E with five lights around each letter. these lights indicate the number of cars on the west end of each track. if the track is deamed "clear" by the hump master, trains can shove into these tracks without having to have a man ride on the point. the "swamp" tracks up by the old yard office also have this same thing, as do the four departure tracks along the main.
