Can someone tell me where this junction is? I'm curious and would think photo opportunities would be rare here? I'm guessing this is the same trackage that crosses Rice Street north of I-694?

Its a great place to catch a Dresser Turn coming back in afternoon light as well. Its one of those places close to the cities that has that up north feeling to it in the summer. I just wish it was busier.

Cardigan is one of those places that you go when you are bored of the city scene. It has a great feeling to it, like the SOO Line is very well alive. Heres a few of my shots from there. Now with the coal trains gone, lighting is an issue because generally during the morning there are no good photo angles, as the tracks curve North through the yard. In the evening, as stated, you can get some pretty decent shots. The 2nd shot here is only possible on an overcast day, unless you dont care if its backlit.

You have to technically tresspass, but It is definately worth it if your one of those people who are leary.

What are the "access points" to get back in there? I took a look at the map that John Hill posted but that obviously doesn't show roadways.

When I go north on Rice Street (before the Hodgson Road and Rice Street breakaway) I see a rail overpass. Would this be near Cardigan Junction? I've only seen one train on there in the several hundred times I've been under that bridge. Bad timing I guess.

Yep, that's near Cardigan. If you keep going north on Rice St. and cross the freeway you'll be even closer to Cardigan Jct. Once you cross the freeway go north and take a left on Ste. Marie St, and then a right onto Rustic Ave. If you take that it north for about a block or so, you'll see Cardigan on your left. You'll be able to park you car and easily walk down to the tracks from there.
