Well, with spring break i just had to go to Northtown. I went and sure am happy. Got there and caught a CSX SD40-2 leading a ex BN SD40-2. Thats in the queue, but it gets better. All the inbounds at northtown were cool, but the CP came up the hill with 3 AC44's. After a little while a BNSF outbound comes up with 3 Dash 9s and a MRL SD45 trailing. The 3rd dash 9 had graffiti on its long hood. Then 2 SD60's come up the hill and wait to get into Northtown. I caught him on the Foley. http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=138667 .While that was going on, inbounds outbounds, but the CP brings another train. This time with 2 GP38-2's, SOO 4433 and SOO 4418 go on the old track that serves the industry's to the west of Northtown.Image
Come back from the mississippi ( we got some bridge shots also ) and we catch a BNSF frieght with two Dash 9's. Then an inbound comes right past it with a BNSF Dash 9 # 4400, and a NS Dash 9. The last train of the day was 3 SD40-2's, the leader 6920 was H1, the last two were ex ATSF. I'll post more pics later.

Alec

Thats cool that you caught the CP down by that elevator :D .

FWIW, while looking at two of WisconsinCentral's photos he took down by 35th Ave, I noticed something really interesting.
In the first picture, there is a track up near those round metal pipes. This is the track that the CP goes down to get to that green elevator.

In the second picture, the track that is to the bottom left of the engine is the same set of tracks. It turns and makes its way up the hill.

Thought this was interesting, since we were talking about this area in another post, so now it makes sense way the CP comes down there, they don't even need to go on to the BNSF, which was what I had thought.

On the far left there are a bunch of coal cars. I never figured out where those tracks went, is this where the wayzata sub joins???

Although it's a bit hard to tell, I think the tracks in question end here on the side of the River and here on the side.
Almost certainly both sets ran further into Minneapolis at one time. Also as you follow that line down from the North you can see industry's sidings at several locations and some must still be in use as Steve has seen activity along there.

The tracks on the east side are BNSF and the tracks on the west side are CP (and BNSF for a little bit). I don't know of any businesses that are shipping on the east side, but the business at the end of the track might. On the west side, there is business, but I don't know what kind. I'm guessing that the BNSF serves the businesses on the west side of the river, but I'm not 100% on that.
