BNSF 9647, the "barfbonnet" or executive test paint scheme out of
Illinois yesterday on the M-NSINTW. Don't know which way its heading
when it gets to Northtown. Watch and listen trackside...

I saw that on RP.net this am. It is our third wedding aniversary, no rail fanning today. Good luck to those who look for it.

it went up to superior about a month ago, I saw it but it was too dark for a pic, and the camera died. it was fairly clean then, so if anyone gets any pics they shouldn't be to shabby

I know this thread is two yeas old but no sense in starting a new one. The often saught after 9647 made its way through the cities this morning on what I think was a reroute coal load as the reporting marks on the hoppers I have necer seen here (IESX & LNTX) anyway here is the shot second out and facing the "wong way" but heck I did not care.

Nice grab on that unique unit.

Anyone know why it seems that nearly all of the MACs have those blemishes on the paint in the same general location on the hoods? Is it from something over heating? I thought it might be the dynamic brake but isn't that located closer to the cab?

That was a Columbia coal train.

As far as the burn marks go, I'd think it was the turbo but that should be lower in the engine...but heat does rise. I chased a coal train a few weeks ago that had three 70MACs. The leader had some peeling paint in that location and another had some somewhat severe burn marks. I got some good shots, but those 'issues' sure didn't help things.

the mufflers are right behind there, plus those engines are normaly on heavily loaded coal trains makes for alot of exhaust heat in a turbo application. things get hot and burn off. when I shot that unit back in July the engineers side had been repainted from the previously burned off paint.

It's sitting at Daytons Bluff on a E-SPCCDM. It's estimated to go at 0500 on June 6th.

Well anyone can go get it now if you're willing to drive a bit in the rain. The 9647 is currently leading 883, but it's sitting in the Homer siding dead.

Nevermind, it's already back on the move towards St. Paul.
