We were sitting outside at the bar in Withrow, when along came the rock train. We watched them do a crew change then make their way west.

I'm still confused about these so-called quiet zones :) I'm in Dellwood, which is a quite zone.. and I hear PLENTY of horn blowing when they come through.

I'll make one thing clear though: Doesn't bother me a bit! :D

I think even some of the crews are confused about these. Over the scanner, I heard one of the UP coal trains, which wye in New Brighton, get a quick lesson in the border of MPLS, so they could again use the horn at crossings.

There are times when I have heard, say NSI-NTW or CSX-PAS, use their horn in the city limits of MPLS.

There are times though, when it is necessary to use their horn. Passing MoW crews, pedestrians/cars on tracks - like by the school NE of Como Ave. I hear light rail tooting all day. So much for quiet zones.

I know that this can be confusing. The CP set the quiet zones for their line in NE mpls. However, the CP trains that would come through used to always blow their horns! I like the sounds of the horn without a doubt, but its kind of ironic when the ones who set the rules never follow them! The WC crews on the other hand always follow the whistle rules.

The CP main line west of Humboldt is only a quiet zone from 10PM to 6am I think.

also the foriegn crew will get in more trouble then the crews on that RR, make sense. thats prolly why the WC follows in more then the CP guys.
