Does anybody know why EVERY BNSF train only uses its horn only when required by the rule book? I was at the Saints Game one night and every train that passed by tooted on its horn as it passed, exept BNSF trains. Also whenever I wave at a train I usually get a responce on the horn but with BNSF crews all I get is a quick wave from the engineer, (if the window is open).

I am unfamiliar with the area your talking about, but the rules clearly state to us in General Bulletins that "trains are not to sound whistle in designated quiet zones, unless in an emergency situation". Personally, I hate blowing the whistle. It's loud, obnoxious, and has made me partially deaf because of it, but if it keeps someone from getting hit, I guess I keep blowin' it.

Both Minneapolis and St. Paul are quite zones, unless there are people on or near the tracks. I know some will slaute young railfans and even a few old ones when they see them trackside :D

the entire St. Paul sub is a quiet zone, there are only two crossing between Mississippi and Uni and both are quiet zones.

Well not the whole sub... just the ones west of New Port. As for the horn blowing.. we had a crew get in trouble for blowing while going by a Saints game... there was a train master at the game.
