Here is one of the more odd head scratching things that I have seen trackside the past few days. BNSF 9892 after sitting in NTW proper for about an hour pulls down to University and stops. A renzenburger van pulls up and the crew gets off the train, right behind him a taxi pulls up with a CP crew who proceeds to get on board, they called the DS identifying the train as "CP 882" lets him know outbound is onboard and departs. I know that CP 884 uses UP power on that train but whats with the 882? Any members have an idea or thought.

My theory is that the CP offers to supply coal, but have no access to it. They probably contract with the BNSF or UP. As with any other consist, a BNSF crew has to operate the train on BNSF trackage; likewise on the CP. Just a guess from observations I have made.

I read the caption on this picture and thought "this is odd"......

Accordy to this an NS crew drove that BNSF train to that point and now a BNSF crew will take it from here. Perhaps what you heard was the same kind of thing. I am only speculating but it sounds like the same kind of thing.

That would make sense I was allso confued about the location of the crew change at University when they could have done it at Pig's eye, but than I remember that the DS had said the BNSF crew was dead at 1145, so they must have planned the change in St. paul but the drop time would not have allowed them to make it there so in comes the taxi with the crew. I knew that we could figure it out thanks guys.

What kind of train was it? The reason I ask is becuase I thought CP train 882 was the coal trains that BNSF hads off to CP at Daytons Bluff that tun to Columbia Power in Portage, WI, but maybe there a different number.

Interesting :?

That would be the train, however the BNSF crew died on the rail so the CP crew had to be brought to University for the change. Otherwise they would have made it to the Bluff.
