I was not planning on railfanning today because of the clouds, but trains don't wait for sunshine so why should I. The family was all out doing their thing so I did mine. I'm to darn tired to put all the Picture links in this post so you can check them out on my webshots page under the "recent photo's" album.
I started out at Phalen Blvd and caught a UP AC440CW coming off the Altoona Sub unto the BNSF St. Paul Sub. While waiting for the next action I noticed an an used partially filled in tunnel. Checking out the maps that are located up there I found it was active until the 70s. Soon after this BNSF 8088, an SD40-2, came rolling down the St. Paul sub heading for Pigseye with a General Merchandise train.
I decided to move a little further on down the line and took up position under the 3rd ave bridge and another BNSF Genral Merchnadise trian came by with a leased RLCX leading the way. Immediately after that went by, BNSF security stopped in and asked me to leave. He was very polite and I obliged his request.
Moving on down to Pigseys I caught the trackmobile pulling CP8626 out of the diesel shop, that trackmoblie was pretty busy as later in the day I caught it pulling an MP15AC around.
There was lots of acitivity in the UP yard and I shot several photo's of that action to include a repair crew fixing some track while another CP MP15AC #1544 was waiting to shove a train in. An SD70M came up the outside track with sort of unpatched SP in tow. This was just a light power move over to South St. Paul. An east bound BNSF Z train snuck up on me and I decided to see if I could catch it at Como Ave.
As I was turning off of Dale St onto Como I could see the crossing arms going back up and I thought I had missed it. As I approached the tracks to park in the "Burea of Indian Affairs" parking lot, the crossing arms came down just in front of me, I shot a CP AC440CW out of the car window. I then decide to move down to Victoria St and caught three train with in 10 minutes. The first was the before mentioned Z train with a leading Warbonett and third in line was a GP60B. Next was that CP car rack/stacker train that runs on a regular basis, no more the 2 minutes later came CP 5827 an SD40-2 pulling another General Merchandise train.
I also shot a photo labled STUPIDa, why a you ask? because there is also a STUPIDb. Perhaps that's not the right thing to call them but you can be the judge.
After this I headed over to South St. Paul to see if I could catch any action there. Tough to find good loactions but a did find a waiting coal train around Wabasha waiting to go across the Robert St. Bridge.
I finally headed back to Pigseye to see if MM or Aaron might be there. Took one last shot of BNSF1593 listed as a GP28p, that would be my first one of those, and headed for home.
In my effort to become a better railfan I have a question...What the heck is a ? I found this attached to a fence next to the tracks down in Newport.
Thanks and I hope you enjoy the photo's
