This resource, always being added to, hosts a list of locations in the Twin Cities metro area (and beyond) that are accessible and provide great vantage points to railfan.
Never going trackside without a camera, I take special interest in providing photographic tips to make this guide a must read!
How To Use This Guide
- The Railfan Guide is broken up into "quadrants" or sections of the Metro area, and Greater Minnesota. To the left and above, you can select locations by metro area, city or railroads you wish to see.
- Within each guide, I have compiled an "official" name - street, major landmark, etc. - which can be found in a map. Also, you can find any relevant railroad milepost, railfan names, estimated frequency of trains and what railroads commonly use the area.
- I have worked to include a synopsis about the area; and for those carrying a camera, I have added my best tips for photography.
- Need to know how to get to a location? I have textual directions from numerous directions. Those aren't enough? I have linked Google, Microsoft, and Yahoo! maps for your convenience.
- And finally, I have large photos illustrating each location, with and without trains.
The information found in this guide is not guaranteed up-to-date.
All locations are believed to be public property, but ownership may change over time. Always railfan logically and abide by current laws.
