I grew up in Minneapolis near the Milwaukee Road's track along Hiawatha Ave, I spent many afternoons and summer days trackside watching the MP15s switching the mills. As I grew older, my dedication to spending time trackside diminished. As time went by, I never forgot about train watching, instead I spent my time reading books about the rich history of the railroads of yesteryear, the men and machines that built the infrastructure most of which still remains today.

I would still stop and watch a passing train every now and then, but I did not have the old feelings of excitement that I once had. Maybe because I never really knew that watching trains had a name, railfanning, and I was not alone. Starting in early 1997 I slowly began visiting Pig's Eye yard with a 35mm camera. I started to build my photo catalog. Next came the addition of a scanner. Eventually, I upgraded through various digital cameras and equipment, even had a brief attempt at videos.

I have grown my photo album to several thousand photos. I have amassed a large library of information related to everything from historic railroad locations to biographies to motive power rosters. Not to exclude many more bits of info that has helped me to recreate accurate HO models and assist other railfans.

Today I not only spend as much time as I can trackside in the metro area, I have the luxury to travel and photograph different railroads in their element and add a twist to the Twin Cities scene. My blog entries will share my travels with you and from time-to-time, I will include historical blogs related to the railroads that built the Twin Cities. So read, enjoy and check back often. See you trackside.
